I have been training my dog (King) and I am trying to train him to also be off leash. It is a slow process but when you are dealing with a dog under 2 years, it's definitely not an easy task. So I just finished working on my car with my boyfriend and we start to walk upstairs to the apartment. Also heading up the stairs at the same time; which almost never happens; is my neighbors. They are a married couple with a new born. Really nice couple and a cute baby that I swear sounds like a cat meowing when he cries. So were all heading up the stairs and my boyfriend heads in the house first. The dog is inside but soon he walks outside to greet me as I am the last one up the stairs. Now usually this wouldn't bother me but considering the neighbors are there with the baby and I have my hands and arms full of items I brought up from the garage, I was slightly nervous of the next few moments. I say hello to the dog and instantly his 2.5 sec attention span draws in on the baby car seat which is right at his level. Now naturally I would have grabbed him as soon as he walked outside but since my hands were full as soon as I saw him start walking towards the baby. I put my leg in front of him thinking it would stop him, but of course my not so large leg did nothing against him. He walks right up the the carriage and sniffs the baby face then commenses to giving him kisses. I finally got everything maneuvered in order to grab him, but the act was committed. I guess the only thing I can say is, my dog walked up to a newborn and just wanted to share some kisses. Though I do feel slightly like an ass for not being able to stop my dog from giving the baby kisses, which sparked a crying/meowing session. He's a puppy and needs more training to fine-tune his listening skills even with distractions but you can't train a dog to be so sweet. I take today as a win, even if the baby got licked.
