New Music

Los Angeles Based Band D.I.M Releases Volume 1 on April 1st ‘The Pieces Fit’

(Los Angeles, CA)—Los Angeles based band, Department of Intellectual Minds (D.M.I), releases debut record, Volume 1 ‘The Pieces Fit’ on April 1st, featuring songs that taps from different genre. They will kick things off with a show on April 7, 2:30 PM at P.C.C (Live on Lancer Radio) and later on the same day, 7:30 PM at Cody’s Viva Cantina, Burbank.

Formed in 2017, the band is on a mission to spread the message of hope through their music, regardless of the many hopeless situations and events happening around the world. They create music that combines tense minor key blues, rock, psychedelic dreaminess, and Beatle-ish pop into something arresting and fresh that fits inside of three-minute songs.

D.I.M.’s upcoming record shows listeners a young band with an intact and evolving vision of rock and roll built on both craft and emotion. Taken as a unit, vocalist Jasmine White, guitarist/vocalist Chad Ellis, bassist Martin Fredriksson, and drummer Daniel Ramos make music with smoldering conviction and it's no surprise that the group is gaining traction in the competitive L.A. market.

The track “Inside Your Mind” shows the band at its best with an intense and deeply felt rock vibe that slides into a major key dream pop guitar break in a way that makes perfect sense upon first listen. Other highlights include the edgy and driving “Waving My Flag” and the Beatle-esque psychedelics of “Last Bus.”

D.I.M is a young and growing band with a synergy that speaks loud, which is evident in their upcoming record. They plan to deliver new music to the world on the first of each month and by this, stake a claim to relevance on the music scene in Los Angeles.

What is a band without band drama?

We all hate to admit it exists but, band drama is a problem that has plague bands since the beginning of time. As much as we like to think that we will be the group to change the mold, somehow, the drama seeps it way in. In most cases the drama is drastic but drama can also be little things that build up into a bigger problem. Though we are taught to not let things build up and fester, we somehow just think if we don't talk about he issues, they will somehow go away. We all know how that doesn't work.

The solution? Talk to your band members. If you notice something that is an issue or something that will eventually become a problem, let them know. Always remembering to be respectful and productive with any notes you give for improvement. Trying to cut someone down or make them feel like they are less then you is completely counterproductive. Try to come to the best solution for the entire group and remember that your all in this together.

When one of your members fall, you all fall down. So lets remember to keep it productive and professional and all the band drama woes that have broken up so many bands will cease to exist.

Surrounding yourself with honest and hard working people is so important in any business! This is no exception in the music business! I have been in Los Angeles for almost 11 years now! Building a community of like minded people is important for a successful outcome.

As a band we have had the great fortune to work with some incredible GENUINE mixing, mastering and recording and engineers. I wanted to take the time to share these very talented musicians so that way more people can utilize their extreme abilities. Volume 1; The Pieces Fit

Volume 1; The Pieces Fit is coming along nicely and very happy with the progress of things. I feel that creating music is something that is so special as it connects and bonds humans on so many levels. What I think that's really cool about Volume 1 is that musically it taps from different genres of music. The lyrics are heavily influenced by all the experiences I have had while living in Los Angeles. Please check back on April 1st as we look forward to sharing these new tunes!

Guitar Concepts

Guitarists can easily hit a wall when it comes to growth. The best advice I was ever given was to keep discovering new music and to talk to other musicians and pick their brain for new inspiration. Today I would like to discuss a cool guitar concept that will keep you busy for a bit! I am taking for granted that you have already mastered your minor pentatonic scales and understand basic music theory. (If you do not please continue to check back here and I will write about that in a later blog.)

Today's concept will help break the soloist out of the basic minor pentatonic pattern that we all have grown to love. Let's take an Am chord for example. Most beginning guitarist will solo using an A minor pentatonic scale. There is nothing wrong with this. If you want to add a little more color to the sound try using both the A minor and B minor pentatonic scale to your solo. What those notes will give you is the 6th degree and the 9th degree in your solo.

Now what if you are over a C minor chord? You can use C minor and D minor v. In other words try the root pentatonic with the other pentatonic scale one full step up from the root.

That will get your solos sounding more sophisticated. And who knows you might get a girlfriend. (Hasn't worked for me.)

The Power Of Music

The Power Of Music

Music is a powerful, powerful force. It is no wonder so many people seek it as their career choice.

For me, music has helped me get through some "dark times." As the underdog all throughout my primary schooling I always had a safe place to escape to in music. It is my light in the middle of the night. Not only that but having ADHD and depression I have discovered that musuc helps me stay focus and keeps the symptoms at bay.

By 26 I was teaching with a roster of over 120 private students weekly and have seen students of all ages changed by the power of music. So why then spend millions on bombs to kill people. Why not spend millions on educationg kids on how to play an instrument? How about our society as a whole encourages and changed the geeky image of playing a violin or flute?

What does the power of music mean to you?

Department Of Intellectual Minds

With the way the world is changing, more and more do we keep seeing civilization being portrayed as a corrupt and hopeless society. From the political and all the way down to civil, so many departments who were mean't to protect and stand up for all, are all looking out for only themselves. In light of the reality we currently live in, we created the Department Of Intellectual Minds. We are here to use our music to show people there is hope. When you open up your mind and understanding to see past all the darkness around us. Using our music, we journey through the struggles and pain; the love, loss and hope that we all have. We can all open our minds to unify through music and realize that we are more then what you are shown and how we are depicted. We are here to change how we make connections, to make it a more powerful experience for all.

My dog licked the baby

I have been training my dog (King) and I am trying to train him to also be off leash. It is a slow process but when you are dealing with a dog under 2 years, it's definitely not an easy task. So I just finished working on my car with my boyfriend and we start to walk upstairs to the apartment. Also heading up the stairs at the same time; which almost never happens; is my neighbors. They are a married couple with a new born. Really nice couple and a cute baby that I swear sounds like a cat meowing when he cries. So were all heading up the stairs and my boyfriend heads in the house first. The dog is inside but soon he walks outside to greet me as I am the last one up the stairs. Now usually this wouldn't bother me but considering the neighbors are there with the baby and I have my hands and arms full of items I brought up from the garage, I was slightly nervous of the next few moments. I say hello to the dog and instantly his 2.5 sec attention span draws in on the baby car seat which is right at his level. Now naturally I would have grabbed him as soon as he walked outside but since my hands were full as soon as I saw him start walking towards the baby. I put my leg in front of him thinking it would stop him, but of course my not so large leg did nothing against him. He walks right up the the carriage and sniffs the baby face then commenses to giving him kisses. I finally got everything maneuvered in order to grab him, but the act was committed. I guess the only thing I can say is, my dog walked up to a newborn and just wanted to share some kisses. Though I do feel slightly like an ass for not being able to stop my dog from giving the baby kisses, which sparked a crying/meowing session. He's a puppy and needs more training to fine-tune his listening skills even with distractions but you can't train a dog to be so sweet. I take today as a win, even if the baby got licked.
